Forest cover in Vietnam has increased by 8%, generating jobs and income for people in rural areas.
A replanting programme has seen coverage rise from 28% in 1995 to 36% in 2001, it was reported to a conference in Hanoi which reviewed the Five Million Hectares Reforestation Programme from 1998-2001.
The project received US$170m investment from 1998-2001, during which 760,000ha of forest was planted.
