The latest developments in scientific research into forestry were revealed to Scottish forestry minister Rhona Brankin when she visited the Forestry Commission’s Northern Research Station at Roslin, Midlothian.
During the visit, scientist Dr ‘Sam’ Samuel, head of tree improvement, demonstrated the manual pollination of young sitka spruce trees, favoured for their fast growth and excellent timber qualities.
