Forestry Commission Scotland is to examine ways of moving the urban forestry agenda forward to help the country’s towns and cities become greener places.

Working with local authorities and other key stakeholders, Forestry Commission Scotland will explore how woodland expansion and forestry activity can be moved closer to where people live and work.

At a conference in Cumbernauld titled “Woods in and around towns” in October, delegates heard that woods are already a highly valued feature of Scotland’s 170 towns and cities.

The aim is to encourage more local authorities to develop forestry strategies in urban areas and spread the opportunities for further woodland.
