A woodland classroom set up in the grounds of Duffryn infants school, Newport, has won school inspectors’ approval.

More than 20 Forest Schools have been set up in Wales over the past three years, all modelled on an idea piloted in Scandinavia more than 50 years ago.

Backed by the Forest Education Initiative, the Duffryn project stimulates children’s early learning by regular visits to the woodland. Here children can experience the outdoors in a safe and supportive environment whilst enjoying an unique learning experience.
