Forest Garden plc has bought the assets of rival Dandf Garden Products from administrators for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition includes the Dandf name, tooling, stock and design rights for garden buildings.

Forest Garden said the deal ideally positions it to support growing demand for garden buildings and reflects a period of consolidation in the market.

Administrators KPMG Corporate Recovery were called in to Ackworth-based Dandf last month when the company ran into trouble with severe cash flow difficulties. Production ceased and 60 people were made redundant.

Forest Garden managing director Sue Spurgeon said: “Forest has already made inroads into the garden buildings market with a range of classic garden buildings launched at GLEE, designed to specifically target this growing sector.

“By adding specialist manufacturing capabilities and some of Dandf’s best-selling lines into the equation, we are now well placed to service the exciting, dynamic market.”

Ms Spurgeon said Forest’s main priority was to maintain supply for outlets as the key new year sales period drew closer. She urged Dandf retailers who were concerned about product availability to contact Forest direct.

Forest Garden said the tightening of the supplier base within the garden buildings industry was causing retailers to struggle to meet increasing demand for summerhouses and gazebos.

Earlier this year, Forest Garden implemented financial restructuring and redundancies to cope with a dip in sales.
