Forest Enterprise‘s Queen’s Jubilee Pinewood has won the large woods prize in the 2002 Scotland’s Finest Woodlands Awards.
The 160ha wood within Loch Ard Forest, Aberfoyle, is intended to create a pinewood eco-system leading to the expansion of other pine habitats. It includes efforts to protect and encourage red squirrels and retain dead wood habitat.
The awards, organised by the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, are given for outstanding examples of multi-purpose woodlands and reward design, management, wildlife and plant conservation, recreation and education.
Other winners include the Finzean Community Woods near Banchory in the small woods category, and a farm woodland on an arable holding near Banff in the farm woodlands section.
