The Philippine Wood Producers Association has urged congress to approve two bills which call for sustainable management of the country’s forest resources.
The bills, introduced in the house of representatives and the senate, are designed to help fight deforestation.
Forest cover has plummeted from 17 million ha in the early 1970s to about seven million ha today, due to conversion of forestland into farming land, illegal logging, demand for fuelwood and other factors.
