Helen Mason, a sales representative at JF Goodwillie, is the first woman delegate to attend SCA Timber’s customer training courses.

Previously a painter and decorator for 11 years, Ms Mason joined the timber trade a year ago. She said: ‘The timber trade is fascinating and has a great depth to its products and their provenance –it’s a wonder more women aren’t involved in the business.

‘Women have good communication skills but they are sometimes put off entering the timber trade because of the predominantly male culture.

‘I think the situation will change as women like myself are given the opportunity to gain more qualifications. I’m keen to carry on learning after my SCA Timber course.’

Six more delegates will start on SCA Timber’s third customer-tailored training course on June 14. It will end with a trip to Sweden and an exam.
