BREEAM is the BRE’s environmental assessment method for buildings, and four developments were highlighted for their outstanding achievements in environmental design and management.
The awards were introduced by Kevin McCloud of Grand Designs and presented by the chairman of the BRE Certification Sustainability Board, Bill Gething.
The Bespoke BREEAM winner was The Mills Building, Veterinary Laboratories Agency, Weybridge. The developer was Defra and the Veterinary Laboratories Agency and the architect was Achton LLP.
The BREEAM Industrial winner was Allerton Bywater Networkcentre, Leeds where Network Space, Langtree Goup plc and English Partnerships were the developer.
Debut at Willans Green, Rugby, Warwickshire was winner of the EcoHomes prize. The developer was Redrow Homes.
The BREEAM Offices winner was the Scottish Natural Heritage Headquarters, Westercraig, Inverness. Here the architect was Keppie Design and the lead contractor was Robertson Property Ltd.
“We are delighted to acknowledge in this way the achievements of the project teams who have worked hard to provide buildings capable of delivering high environmental performance,” said David Crowhurst, director of BREEAM Centre. “All the buildings have scored well above the “excellent” threshold laying down a challenge for future award winners.”
