Some 165 BMF members attended the event at the National Motorcycle Museum to hear keynote speaker Roger Humber, strategic policy adviser for the House Builders Association, review market prospects in the housebuilding sector.

Mr Humber also informed delegates about government policy on subjects including planning reform and climate change.

Members’ Day saw the launch of two flagship BMF services – employmentFirst, designed to ensure employment policies and procedures are correct and kept up to date, and the Dilpoma in Merchanting, a recognised qualification for management of builders’ merchants.

Federation secrerary Peter Matthews said Members’ Day was designed to provide members with knowledge and information on business issues, as well as networking opportunities. “Feedback has been exceedingly positive,” he said.

He said a bigger event was being planned for next October.

“The BMF has really listened to its members and finally delivered a members’ day that focuses on real issues for builders merchants,” said Jullian Ballinger, managing director of Builders Supply Stores (Coventry) Ltd.

A supplier exhibition showcased a range of products and services, while afternoon workshops covered a number of topical issues. An HGV and crane demonstration was provided by UGS Ltd.
