The blocks, manufactured by Prestoplan, were in the process of being constructed at developer St George plc’s Beaufort Park site in Hendon when the blaze broke out on July 12.
More than 100 firefighters and 20 fire engines were called out and a 200m cordon implemented because of gas cylinders on site. People were evacuated from surrounding buildings.
No injuries were reported but a Middlesex University hall of residence adjoining the site was also damaged.
A fire investigation is under way to acertain the cause of the blaze.
Prestoplan confirmed it manufactured the two buildings affected but would not make any further comment.
St George, part of the Berkeley Group, said it was “grateful” for the efforts of the London Fire Brigade and other emergency services.
“St George is now waiting for a full report from the London Fire Brigade before making any further comment on the situation,” the developer said in a statement.
The UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) said it was not aware of the specific details of the fire and could not comment on the cause.
“We take such incidents very seriously,” the UKTFA said. “Obviously we would like to see the results of the authorities’ investigations as soon as such information is available, and will communicate any recommendations to the wider industry if there turns out to be anything we can usefully learn from what has happened.”
