More than 70 firefighters were called to a major fire at STP Distribution’s depot on the Hunslet Trading Estate in Leeds on April 22.

An investigation is under way into the cause of the blaze at the joinery specialist’s warehouse which took hold while people were still working in the building. All were evacuated.

Firefighters were still reported to be damping down at the scene 24 hours after the blaze broke out.

When they first arrived at the scene, they found smoke and flames billowing from the roof while people were still inside.

Sub-officer Ian Greenup told BBC News : “The building was well alight through the roof when we arrived.

“People were still working in the building but we managed to get them all out safely. Luckily we managed to stop the fire spreading to adjacent units.”

He added that smoke from the blaze had affected traffic on nearby roads.
