Bolton-based Tonge Bridge Timber Sales (UK) Ltd suffered a major fire yesterday, with four fire engines and a hydraulic platform being called to its site in Mill Hill Industrial Estate.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service was called at 12.28pm with a report of a “large industrial processing plant well alight”.

A fire service spokesperson said 100% of a building on site was destroyed by fire, with cyclone dust extraction equipment also destroyed.

It is believed an electrical fault may have started the fire.

Tonge Bridge manufactures and distributes machined timber products to the merchanting sector in the North of England, with products including PSE and PTG timber, architraves, skirtings, decking, casings and window board.
