Fire has severely damaged a millionaire’s cedar log home under construction on an exclusive island in Poole harbour.

Firefighters were taken by boat to Green Island and used portable pumps to pump sea water to the scene.

The house has been severely damaged by the fire and some parts of the building have collapsed.

The 402m² four-storey home had been manufactured in Canada and shipped to England. It was believed to be largely complete when the fire struck.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and an investigation has started.

Millionaire Edward Iliffe, who bought the island for £2.5m in 2005, planned the house to be a family holiday home. He won planning permission on appeal two years ago.
