A film demonstrating the importance of fit-for-purpose fire doors has been a “resounding success”, says the British Woodworking Federation (BWF).

The film, developed by the BWF-CERTIFIRE Fire Door & Doorset Scheme, was viewed more than 2,000 times on the BWF website in the first few months after its launch in December, 2008.

It marks a new direction for the scheme in its bid to educate a wider range of professional bodies, including architects.

BWF chief executive Richard Lambert said he was greatly encouraged by the viewing figures, as well as telephone calls being received.

“The next stage of this campaign will be to focus on specific sectors, such as the hospitality industry.”

The film features extracts from a BBC South-West investigation into the fatal fire at the Penhallow hotel in Cornwall and includes a test sequence showing the consequences of an incorrectly fitted door.
