A compromise has been reached in the ‘transport war’ between Finland and Russia.
Finnish authorities will issue Russian road carriers with an additional 14,500 permits this year, while the Russians will keep open transport corridors for Finnish heavy-duty timber trucks until mid-January 2003.
Tension originally arose in August after Finland put curbs on the issue of special carriage permits to Russian truckers.
