For the first time there are two winners of the Finnish Wood Construction Prize 2002.
Awards go to two public buildings – the Sibelius Hall in Lahti, which was completed in 2000, and the Kierikkikeskus in Yli-Ii, completed in 2001.
The prize is awarded every two years by Puuinformaatio (Wood Information). This is the fifth time it has taken place and the aim is to promote timber architecture and wood construction.
Prizes are awarded to buildings or structures that represent a high standard of timber architecture or use wood in a pioneering manner.
The organisers say this year’s joint winners represent two very different construction methods. The Sibelius Hall is an example of advanced technology while the Kierikkikeskus heralds the revival of log construction.
