Finland’s forest resources could sustain a 25% felling increase from the current level, according to the Finnish Forest Industries Federation (FFIF).
The 10th national forest inventory indicates the aggregate volume of timber in Finland’s forests has increased to 2.2 billion m³, with annual forest growth accelerating to about 100 million m3 per year.
FFIF said investments into forest improvement work and timber production over the last few decades are now yielding results.
It said the forest industry, which is suffering from log shortages, needs domestic timber.
