Finland’s new National Forest Council (NFC) has started a review of the country’s National Forest Programme.

The NFC will conduct the review in three phases, which includes drawing up a future outlook for the forest sector and drafting a strategy and action plan.

The first phase will be completed by July, with the strategy and action plan due by the end of 2007.

Finland’s government will then consider the reviewed programme at the same as deciding the future of the Forest Biodversity Programme for Southern Finland.

The NFC, which also acts as a forum for forest-related co-operation between the public and private sectors, is made up of government ministries, the forest industry, forest owners, trade unions and NGOs.
