Rigorous in-house testing of domestic floors based around Finnforest UK’s Finnjoist I-joist (FJI) floor system has proved they comply – depending on specification – with recent amendments to Part E: Resistance to the Passage of Sound of the Building Regulations.

FinnFrame Floor is a combination of Finnjoist, Kerto (LVL) (below) and a specification and floor design software package.

The extensive testing included incorporating the system into different floor constructions and using a range of coverings such as chipboard and Finnish spruce.

The testing also involved constructing floors of various FJI depths with combinations of 18 and 22mm chipboard, 18mm Finnforest spruce panels or 18mm OSB – and each passed with flying colours.

Finnforest UK managing director John Tong said: “Excessive noise is obviously a great nuisance and timber frame is a superb technique to ensure that new home buyers can live without unnecessary disturbance.

“Modern timber frame homes have always offered conformity to the acoustic performance requirements of the regulations, and the systems and technologies are now being deployed to deliver improved comfort levels to homeowners.”
