Finnforest has started staff consultations on a proposal to close its Tilbury operations.

The move, if confirmed, would lead to the loss of 116 jobs on the Tilbury site. The head office and sales function would relocate to a location nearby.

Approximately 70 job roles would transfer to a location nearby and a further 70 would be created at other sites.

“The company now intends to fully and fairly consult with affected employees, both collectively and individually, on the proposed redundancies and relocation aspects prior to making any final decisions,” Finnforest said in a statement.

Final decisions will be made by early January, with the proposed closure taking place by December 31, 2010.
