Finnforest (UK) Ltd‘s investment in IT and logistics has helped short-list the company in the 2003 European Supply Chain Excellence Awards.

The Middlesex-based firm, one of 21 shortlisted businesses from more than 250 original entries, is vying with the likes of Volkswagen in two award categories, engineering and manufacturing, plus general manufacturing.

A significant development in Finnforest‘s supply chain management has been its ability to meet the demands of the DIY sector through “Good Faith Receipting” (GFR). The company was the first direct-to-store supplier, along with B&Q, to introduce GFR.

GFR, which depends on high levels of delivery accuracy and efficient electronic warehousing, is designed to minimise back office administration and improve stock management.

Stores no longer need to perform time-consuming line-by-line checks on deliveries, freeing up time to replenish shelves.

Winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel on November 17.
