A slowdown in the market has forced Finnforest UK to make redundancies at senior management level.

There have also been changes at parent company Metsäliitto in Finland in a bid to reach synergies and cost savings.

Finnforest UK managing director John Tong said: “With the current difficult trading conditions forecast to continue into next year, Finnforest UK has initiated a consolidation of its senior management structure to ensure the organisation continues to develop its position as the market leader in its chosen segments and maintains its good levels of profitability, providing a strong return on investment to its stakeholders.”

IT and logistics director Mark Tonge and building and construction sales director Nigel McKillop have left the company and their responsibilities have been taken over by existing board members UK operations director Rod Allan, UK sales director Tom Tong and UK procurement director Nick Davenport.

Mr Tong said the objective was to improve synergies between the various functions and help reduce costs.

Meanwhile in Finland, it has been agreed to merge Metsäliitto Group‘s wholly-owned subsidiaries Finnforest Corporation and Metsäliitto-Yhtym n Tehdasmittaus Oy to Metsäliitto Co-operative.

In a statement, the company said the aim is to simplify the Metsäliitto group structure and Finnforest organisation to achieve co-operation and save money.

Finnforest said there would be no changes to its operations and branding, with “business as usual”.

Finnforest chief executive officer Ari Martonen has left the company and Ole Salvén, president and CEO of Moelven, part of the Finnforest Group, has been appointed new CEO and head of Finnforest operations within Metsäliitto Co-operative.
