This was one of the conclusions of Bo Borgström, who led a working group defining scenarios and vision for the sector.

Mr Borgström said by 2015 half of the value of the wood industries’ products would come from related services, which required a new kind of co-operation and networking.

He said the focus should be on improving existing products, making bioenergy a part of business and concentrating on the building industry in areas close to Finland, especially Russia. Better contact with end users was also vital, he added.

Mr Borgstöm said 5% annual growth was required in order to double the value of Finnish wood production by 2020.
