Timbmet group chief executive Simon Fineman was elected chairman of TRADA at its AGM this week. He succeeds Richard Burbidge.

An ardent campaigner for the timber industry to take a firm stance on environmental issues, he is also committed to enhancing the efficiency of the timber supply chain. Mr Fineman graduated in Law from London University’s School of African and Oriental Studies at the University of London and initially pursued a career in the public sector, before building up his own furniture manufacturing business overseas. He returned to the UK in the early 1990s and joined the Timbmet Group.

“As one of the largest independent companies in the industry, we believe it is important that we support the trade bodies like TRADA which, through the lead it takes on research and development, makes a positive and measurable contribution to the industry’s future,” said Mr Fineman.
