The Forest Education Initiative (FEI) is continuing its campaign to educate schoolchildren about the importance of forestry and timber with a number of activities.

In Scotland, FEI clusters in Lothian and the Borders are planning activities linked to the year-long Treefest 2002 including a bus with forest industry information visiting schools.

In the north-east, the successfully piloted ‘Seed to Saw’ project will be extended and involve pupils visiting Kielder Forest to see tree planting and timber firms such as MH Southern & Co Ltd, Jarrow, Hexhamshire Hardwoods, as well as school visits from Egger (UK) Ltd.

A training day showing teachers how to run a maths trail in a woodland environment will be held at Forest Enterprise’s Cwmcarn Visitor Centre, Wales, on March 26, while FEI North East Wales will be launched on April 25.
