The deadline for entries for the contest was Friday and two days before, Wood Awards organiser Lucy Kamall said that those received so far were “impressive”, both in number calibre and number.

“The quality really is fantastic, and if previous years are anything to go by, where entrants have gone right up to the deadline, we will get a fair number more!” she said.

For the first time this year, she added, the Wood Awards shortlisted Furniture categories pieces will be exhibited at the 100% Design exhibition in London from September 18-21.

A showcase of the shortlist will also feature at Timber Expo at the NEC from September 24-25. In another first for 2013, all all entries will also be presented on the Wood Awards Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest sites – links to all of which feature on the Awards own site, www.woodawards.com.

Wood Awards lead sponsors this year are Canada Wood, the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) and the Carpenters’ Company. Also sponsoring are Wood for Good, TRADA and American Softwoods.

They are also supported by the BRE and Forestry Commission.
