Vietnam earned US$712m from wood product exports during the first half of 2005, up 44.7% on a year ago.

The country expects to earn U$1.5bn this year from wood product exports, which are mainly bought by the US and EU.

The Vietnamese wood products industry has grown by 70% annually since 2000. Export turnover last year was US$1bn, up from just US$202.8m in 1999.

More than 1,200 wood processing factories operate in Vietnam, with annual capacity about 2 million m3.
