The UK’s export order books are healthier than they have been in more than two years, according to the CBI. It added, however, that overall demand is still sluggish.

Responding to the latest monthly CBI Industrial Trends Survey, 27% of manufacturers said that export orders were above normal, while 24% said they were below. The resulting balance of +3% shows that export orders are no longer sub-par and are a great improvement on April’s -16% figure.

However, total order books are not so healthy, reflecting the slower recovery in domestic demand.
