Meteoric expansion at Travis Perkins (TP) continues with the opening of 13 new branches in the first five weeks of 2008.

The growth, in both trade and retail divisions, includes eight brownfield openings and five acquisitions.

TP has spent about £20m on the openings, with the businesses expected to add £24m of turnover to the group in their first 12 months of trading.

Additional branches comprise seven TP outlets, four Wickes stores, one Keyline branch and one Tile Giant site.

The group’s network now stands at 1,138 branches.

“On a like-for-like basis, the group is growing ahead of market growth rates,” said group chief executive Geoff Cooper.

“Our proven operational efficiency enables us to pursue a value accretive expansion policy, both through our brownfield programme and through selective acquisition of good merchanting businesses where there are a number of attractive opportunities for the group.”
