The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) says it has received an overwhelming response to its inaugural Global WoodMart (MGW 2010) to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on October 19-20.

The response includes foreign exhibitors, notably from the US, France, China, Brazil, New Zealand, South Korea, the UK and Ghana.

MGW 2010 is designed to be a one-stop selling, buying and networking platform for timber products from Malaysia and around the world and is believed to be the first of its kind in South-east Asia. It is expected to facilitate business among local and overseas timber suppliers, agents, distributors, importers, manufacturers, wholesalers.

MTC chief executive officer Cheah Kam Huan said the trade exhibition would cover softwoods, and temperate and tropical hardwoods, from the raw material through to finished products.

Visits to factories and forests can be arranged.

“It is an opportunity to meet suppliers from around the world in once place,” said Mr Cheah. “It’s a generic promotion of wood.”
