A 17th century market hall in the Welsh town of Llanidloes has been turned into an exhibition centre dedicated to the history of half-timbered buildings.

The building, which itself has timbers dating back to about 1560, underwent an £82,000 refurbishment to make it into the “Celebration of Timber Buildings” visitor experience providing historical displays including interactive computer points.

It is the result of a partnership between Powys Council and Llanidloes Town Council, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and will open to the public during July.

Half-timbered buildings were a favoured form of construction in mid Wales during the 16th and 17th centuries.
