Prof Kairi, head of wood technology at the Helsinki University of Technology, has worked for 30 years with Kerto.

He held the posts of product manager, production manager and development manager with Finnforest parent company Metsäliitto from 1975-2001.

Metsäliitto said Mr Kairi had a “remarkable effect” on the development, manufacturing and marketing of Kerto LVL products.

The Schweighofer Prize is worth €100,000 and acknowledges innovations which can be counted as milestones in the development of the European forest industry.

Mr Kairi received the award in Vienna’s City Hall on June 18.
