The first container of Lyptus branded eucalyptus decking has landed in the UK.

The product, manufactured by Weyerhaeuser in Brazil and to be distributed by the company’s existing distributor partner Woodlink, has been developed in response to increased market demand for certified tropical decking products.

Until now, plantation-grown Lyptus has been used for millwork and panelling. But the engineering of an exact manufacturing process has now opened up its use for exterior applications.

Weyerhaeuser said close product monitoring and control of moisture levels during drying was key to the process to give a more durable product.

Lyptus heartwood is used for decking at a minimum density of 600kg/m³, with Weyerhaeuser having tested samples in Germany to achieve Durability Class 3 – currently being verified by TRADA.
