The development of decking applications for plantation grown eucalyptus brand Lyptus is expected to further boost the product’s place on the market.

Normally used internally for architectural millwork and panelling, Lyptus’ new decking application represents an expansion into the exterior timber products market.

Lyptus, produced by Weyerhaeuser from Brazilian PEFC-certified plantations, has been developed into a decking product by Italian timber firm Pircher.

The new system combines Lyptus lumber with Arch’s Vacsol Aqua water-based timber preservative.

It is currently available in Italy and scheduled for a fourth quarter release in the UK (through Woodlink UK) and the rest of Europe.

“The development of a system that makes Lyptus suitable for decking is a welcome innovation as it will enable our distributor partners to enhance their portfolios and capitalise on the continued demand for high quality and sustainable exterior timber products,” said John Guerin, European commercial director for Weyerhaeuser.
