A joint statement declaring Malaysia’s support for a partnership agreement under the EU‘s Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade Action Plan was released following talks between a Malaysian delegation and EU officials in Brussels.

Malaysia’s minister of plantations, industry and commodities Peter Chin said an agreement would further strengthen sustainable forest management in the country.

The talks came during a Malaysian timber economic and technical mission to Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, which is intended to promote trade of tropical timber and sustainable forest management in Malaysia.

The mission is also seeking support and recognition for the Malaysian Timber Certification Council‘s certification scheme.
