The company, which manufactures, Stellite tips and services wide bandsaw and other cutting tools for the timber industry, said it was the first commercial sharpening business in Scotland to install the new Vollmer RC110 automatic levelling and tensioning machine.

“Many timber mills are looking to outsource their servicing of bandsaws and other tools so it is important that we can clearly demonstrate that we have the best possible equipment to support their requirements both today and in the future,” said EPS managing director Nick Palmer.

Steve Goodlad, EPS general manager in Scotland, said the investment at Kirkcaldy had brought instant results, improving productivity by a third while freeing up staff to train new apprentices.

“This investment demonstrates our commitment to the market and is key to our expansion plans which will see us move to larger premises and employ an additional four staff in Scotland in the next three years,” he said.

EPS, whose main base is in Somerset, opened the Kirkcaldy facility five years ago to give it a location closer to its Scottish customer base. Two new staff were recently added to the Kirkcaldy facility.
