Examples of real jobs available in the timber industries are to be posted on The Doorway careers and training website at www.thedoorway.org.uk over the next few months.

The move is a prelude to a series of proposed visits to timber companies by career advisers company Connexions Personal Advisers, currently being developed by the Timber Trade Federation‘s education, training and careers committee.

Timber sector companies can post junior and entry-level vacancies onto The Doorway website free of charge over the next three months while traffic to the site is being extended.

Laura Wilkshire at TTJ is handling the website entries, as part of the joint ownership agreement of The Doorway between TTJ and the Timber Trade Federation.

“Recently a number of leading figures in the timber trade have stressed the importance for the future of the sector of bringing in a steady flow of bright young new recruits,” said TTJ editor Mike Jeffree.

“The free job advert opportunity on The Doorway website, together with the latter’s initiative to create links with Connexions career advisers, should help raise the profile of the industry as a career option with young people nationwide.”

TTJ publisher David Wildman added: “It’s important to have real entry-level jobs on The Doorway website in order for it to become the main information portal for careers information in the timber sector.

“To widen the trade’s awareness of the website, TTJ will also run a Doorway column in its classified pages each issue to repeat the junior vacancies, again free of charge, until site traffic has been improved through promotion.”
