Building systems and software development group Eleco plc has completed the £3.8m takeover of Swedish-based Consultec, the leading supplier of timber engineering software.

Eleco says the acquisition is a key part of a strategy to improve its capability in the developing market for design and procurement software for the construction sector. Following the deal, Consultec president Mats Lövgren has been appointed chief executive of Eleco Software.

The first Consultec product to be introduced in the UK is StairCon, a Windows-based software package for the design, visualisation and planning of wooden staircases. The software is used in 60% of Swedish wooden stair production and is available through Eleco subsidiary MBA Computing.

John Ketteley, Eleco executive chairman, said: “Consultec is held in the highest regard by architects and other professionals in the construction industry in Sweden and its products and services have been highly successful in that market.”
