Recent factory improvements at its European OSB plants in Germany and Romania – which have raised Egger’s overall OSB production capacity to nearly 1 million m3 – have helped to ensure long-term supply to the UK market.

The developments follow strong sales growth in Egger Group’s building products division (OSB and lumber), which recently reported a 30% sales rise for the period May to October, 2013.

“We are looking to support the UK timber frame market, which is an area we have not focused much on previously,” said Katie Burton, Egger (UK) Ltd’s building products marketing co-ordinator. “It’s a new area.”

She said growth in UK housebuilding and increasing popularity of timber frame, where OSB 3 is used as the panel of choice for wall sheathing, as well as structural insulated panels (SIPs) and modular build systems, meant the company was looking to expand its OSB business.

Ms Burton said Egger UK’s OSB sales had started to rise and the company was hopeful of increasing its shipments from the main supply factory at Wismar, Germany to its UK distribution hubs at the Port of Perth and Port of Seaham.

Last October, Egger Group boosted its war chest to ultimately help fund acquisitions and investments, following a successful €100m bond placement.
