A construction site safety drive by the HSE has been welcomed by Northumberland-based Egger (UK) Ltd.

Construction sites across the UK were targeted as part of a Europe-wide inspection campaign designed to reduce the number of fatal and serious injuries in the industry.

The FaTaL Risks Campaign 2004 concentrated on falls arising from work at height; transport on site including mobile plant and vehicles; lifting heavy loads with cranes and other lifting machines.

Craig Colligan, Egger’s specification manager for building products, said house builders are more aware of risks and take a responsible attitude to safety. But, he added, building sites remain extremely dangerous places to work and advised that dangers can be reduced by using wet weather protected flooring board such as Egger’s Weyroc Protect during first floor construction.
