The government’s strategy to deliver sustainable development in rural England is the subject of the England Forest Industries Partnership‘s (EFIP) first policy information brief.

EFIP’s brief outlines key points of the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs‘ (Defra) Rural Strategy and assesses the implications for the wider forestry sector.

Defra’s strategy builds on the government’s Rural White Paper (2000) and principles of an independent review of rural delivery carried out by Lord Haskins.

The strategy says the forest industry is important to the prosperity of rural England and all delivery bodies should work in partnership to achieve sustainable outcomes.

EFIP will produce monthly policy and information briefs relevant to the wider forestry sector. The next will include ancient semi-natural woodland policy and the new England Woodland grant scheme.
