Ecobuild organiser UBM is launching the show in India to capitalise on record construction industry investment in the country.

The first Ecobuild India is taking place from April 16-18, 2013 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre.

UBM said the launch reflected the increasing momentum towards sustainable building in India.?

Ecobuild India is supported by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India, the Institute of Indian Interior Designers, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors the Building Research Establishment, Chartered Institute of Building and UK Trade & Investment.

The Indian government’s recent five-year plan (2007–12) saw it invest US$500bn and India’s planning commission has set out detailed plans to spend a further US$1trn up to 2017.?

India is second only to China in the number of Private Public Partnership (PPP) projects.

The construction industry in India is predicted to be the third largest in the world by 2020 accounting for 7% of global spending. Currently worth over US$300bn it accounts for 20% of GDP. It is forecast to grow at 14% (compound annual growth rate) to US$500bn by 2015.

India’s green building movement currently represents about 5% (US$15bn of the country’s total construction market and lacks legislative underpinning. The India Green Building Council estimates there is a potential market of US$10bn up to 2015 for compliant building materials and products.?

“The launch event will distil the key components of Ecobuild in the UK to deliver a showcase of the most impressive sustainable construction projects from across India and the world, the latest and most innovative products, and a conference programme that will tackle the most pressing concerns and the biggest challenges facing the region,” said James Blue, Ecobuild’s portfolio director.
