Organised by regional development agency One NorthEast and NEWHeat, the event saw the group, which included wood heat expert Neil Harrison and eco-columnist Julia Stephenson, discuss how the use of wood heat can help cut energy bills, increase efficiency and negate global warming.
One NorthEast, which is launching an initiative to promote the use of biomass as a legitimate heating method, said the event was intended to get the rest of the UK to consider wood heat as a way to combat climate change.
“For the future of the country and planet we, the north-east, are leading the way in renewable energy and we would like to set an example to the rest of the UK to follow us,” said One NorthEast chief executive officer Alan Clarke.
