East Sussex-based European oak importer and sawmiller EC Forest Products has gone into administration.

Administrators at Begbies Traynor have been appointed at the Lewes-based company, a major importer of graded European oak, including kiln-dried, green and air-dried products.

The company confirmed to TTJ on Wednesday that it had gone into administration but the administrators were not available for comment.

The company invested £1m in 2007 to help it recover from a fire that destroyed all its assets.

The recovery coincided with an overall company shift away from concentrating on timber merchants to focus on the demands of end users.

On its website, EC said investment at home and abroad was helping the company grow bigger than ever, with new international business and global contacts enabling it to enlarge stocks of exotic woods. It had also begun to market local oak and chestnut from Sussex and Kent.

EC also stocked American hardwoods and specialist softwoods.
