Malaysia’s wood-based export earnings were up M$700m to M$17bn in 2004.

The country’s plantations industries and commodities minister said the strong growth was expected to continue in 2005.

Timber furniture had the biggest slice of the profits in 2004 with M$4.72bn, followed by plywood (M$4bn) and sawn timber (M$2.3bn).

In 2003, export earnings totalled M$16.3bn, a 7% improvement on the year before.
