DWP Harvesting has started supplying roundwood for the production of wood pellets at a new processing plant in Arbuthnott, Kincardineshire.

The timber, which is destined for the Stovies Wood Pellet plant being built in Arbuthnott, is being felled in the Easter Clune wood near Finzean, Aberdeenshire, which is owned and managed by a member of the DWP co-operative.

DWP director Andrew Nicol said this would help create a healthy supply chain, capable of supplying the needs of biomass facilities such as the Stovies Wood Pellet plant and keeping the value of timber in local communities.

“We have in our members’ forests a secure resource base of roundwood suitable for use in biomass projects such as this,” said Mr Nicol. “At the same time, in partnership with our contractors, we have set up an efficient supply chain for harvesting, processing and delivering biomass.”

Mr Nicol added that supplying biomass plants, “a new market for timber from local forests”, was an ideal way to celebrate DWP’s 20th anniversary.
