Timber micro building business Dwelle has won yet another award – Concept for Living magazine’s Northern Design Awards for Best Eco Build and Innovative Design.
Dwelle, started by architect Ric Frankland, has already won the British Homes Award for Small House of the Year 2010 and two architectural awards from the Manchester School of Architecture – best residential project and the People’s Choice Award.
“Although dwelle came about as a result of the recession, our success in winning awards is now resulting in a successful business and continuing advances in design,” said Mr Frankland.
Dwelle designs and builds various sized micro buildings, comprising 220mm Masonite I-joists for the floors, rafters and stud walls and a 220 glulam structural portal frame. External sheathing is 9mm Panelvent high density fibreboard and Panelline for the internal lining. External cladding is in western red cedar.
Dwelle, which first presented its prototype “big dwelle.ing” at Grand Designs Live last year, is marketing its buildings for use as small homes, home offices, garden studios and holiday accommodation.
