Dutch shipping companies Wijnne & Barends and Spliethoff are to intensify their forest products transportation activities. The move follows a decision by a Dutch investment company to sell its 13% share in Wijnne & Barends to Spliethoff.
Wijnne & Barends has four new vessels on order designed especially for the transport of packaged timber and capable of loading entirely under deck, which is unique for the trade.
Spliethoff is waiting on the imminent delivery of two ships built especially for, and developed in close co-operation with, the forest industry. These vessels are equipped with an advanced side loading system, enabling an exceptionally high loading and discharging speed.
