The level of certified wood consumption in the Netherlands more than doubled between 2005-2008, according to the latest statistics available.

In 2008, 33.8% of total sawn timber and wood-based panel consumption in Holland was labelled with a certificate of sustainable forest management. All of this volume complied with the procurement regulations of the Dutch government.

Previous figures show a 13.3% total certified consumption volume for 2005.

PEFC-certified volume represented the largest share of consumption with 1.4 million m³, followed by FSC on 747,870m³

Certified sawn softwood volumes in the Dutch construction and civil engineering sector in 2008 reached 1.05 million m³ – 80% of all sawn softwood aimed at the market. A certified sawn hardwood volume of 121,000m³ represented only 24% of all hardwood supplied to the sector.

Probos carried out the study on behalf of the Dutch government.
